Five intriguing film stories, five interesting directorial approaches inspired by actual facts and events – this is what Zagreb Film Festival’s screens will show in a new section Inspired by True Events. These five films will attract audiences not only with the authenticity of their plots, but also with their successful appearance at film festivals and praises received from both critics and audience.
Among them is this year’s double award-winner at Sundance (Jury and Audience Grand Prix) and the winner of Avenir Award in the Un Certain Regard program of this year’s Cannes Film Festival – the American film Fruitvale Station.
In his feature debut, 26-year-old American director Ryan Coogler tells a tragic tale of Oscar, a young dark-skinned man, killed for no reason by a frightened traffic policeman at Oakland’s Fruitvale station in 2009. A curious fact is also that the producers of Fruitvale Station are the great American actor Forest Whittaker and his production company Significant Production.
