Synopsis
Jewish-German philosopher Hannah Arendt fled from Nazi Germany to the United States, where she, among other things, worked as a university tutor. Then The New Yorker sent her to cover the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Israel and she wrote her book A Report on the Banality of Evil, that started a controversy. Using footage from the actual Eichmann trial and weaving a narrative that spans three countries, director Margarethe von Trotta beautifully turns the often invisible passion for thought into immersive, dramatic cinema.

Directors Biography
Margarethe von Trotta is one of the leaders of the New German Cinema movement, as well as one of the world’s most important feminist filmmakers. Following her first independent directorial effort, 'The Second Awakening of Christa Klages' (1978), von Trotta has gone on to make important and controversial films – often collaborating with actress Barbara Sukowa – such as 'Sisters or the Balance of Happiness' (1979); 'Marianne and Juliane'; winner of the Golden Lion at the 1981 Venice Film Festival) and many more. Margarethe von Trotta is also a Professor of Film at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.
